MilPower

US Navy. MilPower was
unaware of the documentation
requirements of the Navy
and did not have the tools
or manpower to do the job.
Since this was
a temporary requirement it was decided to outsource this huge
documentation task to Piton who could provide MIL-STD-100
documentation. Also, this would allow time to ramp up an in-house
drafting and documentation department.
Working from foreign language,
hand drawn, mechanical prints, schematics, and prototypes of the +5V
and +/-12V power supplies; Piton worked backwards and created over 73
drawings and 33 parts lists.
Drawings included machined
aluminum parts, lathed parts, stamped parts, sheetmetal parts,
mechanical assembly drawings, identification labels, transformer
assemblies, printed wiring boards, printed wiring assemblies,
schematic diagrams, and interconnect diagrams.
Interface between the offshore
engineers, the East Coast US office, the Pomona based customer, and
the US Navy was critical to technical accuracy and meeting schedule.
After two iterations the Navy "bought off" the drawings.
Piton provided this service
again for a Teladyne project and a Datatape power supply. After these
two projects, and with Piton's guidance, MilPower established an
in-house capability.
